In-game Axiom verge makes a distinction between Weapons, Powerups, and Upgrades. Playstation Trophies will refer to Upgrades as "Tools" and "Abilities". The following is a list of all Upgrades that can be collected throughout the game.
List of Upgrades in Axiom Verge
Axiom Verge 2
In Axiom Verge 2, the variety of upgrades is significantly less, though there is a lot more backstory and lore regarding the most prevalent type of upgrade: Arms. They are used to give Indra special abilities during her missions. They are made of dust-like nanomachines, stored in urns and assigned to a specific Wielder. Breaking these urns will assign them to Indra, letting her use their abilities. Before the events of the game, several Arms were abandoned and hidden away, so they are littered all over Kiengir. (See the category page for more details and a full list of Arms.)
There are also various other items throughout the world, ranging from technological to traditional human craft.
