Two different scenarios: Athetos could have kept cloning himself from an earlier timeprint, creating a new clone every 20 years or so while maybe working on bringing technology back to earth...

Or: "Reviving" Athetos maybe was the Rusalki's Plan A. They release a scientist who wishes to travel away from Sudra, hope that he deactivates the Breach Attractor, so that they can flee Sudra. Only that something went wrong, the pathogen got released, the Rusalki failed "to control him" and turned on each other...

I want to come back to this thought. The in-game Athetos could be a clone of the original...made hundreds, even thousands of years later.

Recall that Trace asked the Rusalki why he doesn't remember coming to Sudra? Ophelia says "We don't know. Data degredation maybe?"

Data degredation. Trace lost part of his memory. Because he's a clone.

It's a nice speculation, but it's not really hinted in the game, so for now it'll only remain a theory, I guess.

It might be! Read Letter_(Note) again. It's a purple Note, written by Athetos, right? But he doesn't seem to remember coming to Sudra!

Data degredation. It seems Athetos also lost part of his memory. ...Because he's a clone!
