I fail to see anything suggesting this - Merksperk could you please explain this addition? (On the contrary - it's faded, suggesting it's old, and it can be picked up prior to the conclusion of the game...)

I suppose a case could be made for the catastrophe to refer to the plague, but it could just as well refer to whatever caused the end of "The Land of Civilized Kings".
